Early-stage product research and development is a challenge and benefits from the technical expertise, instrumentation, and collaborative environment available at user facilities. The Foundry successfully supports a gamut of users and projects with industrial connections focused on product research, development, and technical de-risking.
This symposium session focused on the industrial research and product development activities currently going on at the Foundry. The session included speakers from companies like Seagate and Dow Chemical, as well as a number of startups.
Beth Zotter from Berkeley Lab’s Cyclotron Road gave a talk on “Techonomics” and developing technology for commercial impact. Her message for aspiring entrepreneurs: “Guessing in your cost model is OK & absolutely necessary. It’s called an assumption – you just have to state it!”
